Target Partners and Speedinvest invest in datapath.io

Optimizing data routing at the core of the Internet infrastructure

Munich/Vienna/Mainz, February 18, 2016: datapath.io (www.datapath.io), founded in Germany in 2015, picked up a €965,000 ($1.1 million) investment from early-stage investors Target Partners (www.targetpartners.de) and Speedinvest (www.speedinvest.com). The startup developed a network performance management solution for companies who wish to optimize access to their applications. The global Internet infrastructure, connected via submarine cables and network nodes, is a black box. The datapath.io technology opens this black box and guarantees content providers the best route to and from their users. To do this, the startup works with cloud providers like Amazon Web Services and network providers such as Cogent, Hibernia Networks or Level 3. The startup will use the fresh capital to grow their engineering and sales teams, and expand its global network.

datapath.io received earlier seed funding from Jochen Tuchbreiter (founder of domainfactory), Christian Henschel and Paul H. Müller (two founders of adjust GmbH), Maximilian Claussen (ex-Earlybird Principal), and the Techstars accelerator.

To provide their service, datapath.io analyzes over 15 terabytes of performance data from over 70 network nodes worldwide. The Internet traffic routes between applications and end users are then optimized based on time, cost, availability, and bandwidth, depending on the needs of the customer (for example, in adtech, e-commerce or online gaming). The startup has already signed ten renowned customers, including large adtech and e-commerce companies. The network optimization is available as a SaaS or on-premise solution.

“Content providers have historically had limited control over the dynamic routing in the Internet, and as a result the performance of their connection and applications. Our technology allows customers to finally take control through an easy plug-and-play solution,” says datapath.io co-founder and CEO, Sebastian Spies. “Performance studies such as those by Amazon or Walmart show: Every tenth of a second reduction in page loading times can result in a one per cent increase in revenue,” says co-founder and COO, Sascha Coldewey, underlining the benefits of datapath.io. (see https://wpostats.com for examples of studies).

“The datapath.io product is affordable, easy-to-use and brings an unbeatable value for Internet companies: speed. datapath.io has the potential to become the market leader for dynamic route optimization in just a few years,” says Kurt Müller, Partner at Target Partners.

“A cloud customer’s business is strongly impacted by the end customer experience they deliver. Yet DevOps have limited options to manage the Internet performance of their applications. Datapath.io aims to change this,” says Marcel van der Heijden, Partner at Speedinvest.

The datapath.io founders Sebastian Spies and Sascha Coldewey worked for two years on the technology before they founded the startup in May, 2015. Sebastian has a background in the field of network technology and software development, and has worked with – among others – the network node DE-CIX in Frankfurt. Sascha is a seasoned entrepreneur and previously founded the streetwear shop kolibrishop.com, which was sold to dress-for-less in 2010. Today, the Mainz-based startup has ten employees.

As of now customers of Amazon Web Services can sign up for a free trial on www.datapath.io. Cloud providers that look to partner with datapath.io can contact partner@datapath.io.
